    To crescendo is to increase (volume, in music).  It's impossible to "rise to a crescendo"...

    What would you / they want to call it? Is it the number number that offends?
    The trouble is, you can't speak in capital letters. You don't want to end up with haberdashery by mistake

    people replacing "zero" with "Oh" when it's a number. 
    O is a letter of the alphabet, 0 is a number
    You'd never say three , two , one , Oh. It's Zero
    You'd not say Oh % interest , it's Zero
    so why do folk say my phone number is Oh seven........ It's zero seven
