Why are my Cosmos leaves dying?

I’ve sown some Cosmos this year as my first ever plant I’ve grown. 4 have grown, 1 has a bud (I was so happy!) but I noticed that some of the leaves have gone brown & shrivelled. I’ve removed them but have I done something wrong?

Where do you have them?  If outside or unprotected it may be the cold.  They are not reliably hardy below 5C and babies will be even more vulnerable to cold.

In my living room, on a sofa arm where they’ll get the most sun. There is a draft there but the room isn’t that cold.

They won't like cold draughts.  Have they got enough moisture?

I check the soil nearly every day & water when it's nearly completly dry. I wait until the warter comes out of the botton the little dish thing. Do they need more warter?

The best way to water is to sink the pots or tray in a bucket or bowl or tray of water till no further air bubbles appear then set aside to drain.  That way you knw the compost is damp all through with no dry air pockets and no drowning or going thirsty.

I think we need to see photos to get a better idea of what’s causing the problem.

It could be that the air is too dry Helen. As Dove says, if you can post a photo it would help.
It might be worth moving them to a bright (not sunny) windowsill during the day if you can.
