Fleece only adds a couple of degrees I think, although there are thicker ones that might do more. So you could get caught out by a late frost. You could risk a few of them if you’re feeling lucky, but be prepared for the worst. I agree with Nanny Beach, and would also sow some more as backup. They will grow very fast at this time of year, and easily catch your leggy beans. Seed companies claim that you can sow early because they want you to buy from them. But with fast-growing veg that won’t stand frost, and without professional-standard greenhouses, it’s very difficult to keep them happy. it’s better to wait, even though it’s hard to resist.
Carmarthenshire (mild, wet, windy). Loam over shale, very slightly sloping, so free draining. Mildly acidic or neutral.
I will sow mine on Monday, there was snow in our rain today. theyll be planted out 1st week in June. Can’t see the point in hurrying with them and risk losing them.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
Valid point Lyn but, by saving my own seed each year, I always start with several hundred, faithfully stored on the airing cupboard floor over the winter, and losing a few of them isn't a disaster if it happens. I have tried rotational sowing but they all seem to catch up with each other and little is gained.
