It’s raining heavily in Liverpool today.. and being typical of a coastal city the rain often comes with strong wind as usual.. there’s a good going 25mph wine going on.. and I was heart broken when I braced the wind to go out on my balcony to check on my roses only to find a good 15 inch thick cane had snapped off one of my roses.. 😭
I was going to take a picture to share my misery with you all but by the time I returned with my phone it had been blown off the balcony.. nowhere to be seen again. Needless to say I’m now slightly on the damp side after a fair bit of frantic staking to prevent further casualties..
@Marlorena I’ve ordered from Agel-Rosen at the beginning March, they’ve shipped the roses, DPD has kept them for more than a week in a local depot and after that they’ve sent the roses back to Germany. DPD did not bother to reply to any of my questions, nor did they give a reason for not delivering to the company, when they’ve tried to investigate. In the end Agel-Rosen have written to apologise and say it’s not possible to send roses to UK anymore. They given me a full refund, including the additional VAT. I can’t fault them with anything, they have been excellent throughout.
@pitter-patter ...many thanks for that useful information... it does beg the question though of why they bothered to send me a rose, knowing it wasn't going to get through... I hope I get a good result as you did.. we shall wait and see... I've made worse mistakes in my time..
@jayne10b ...I've grown both, I only have 'Bathsheba' now.. very different roses... Bathsheba has better rebloom, and much less thorny, but isn't as rain resistant as GJ.. if you live in an especially rainy part of the country, that may be a decider for you..
Finally the rain has made it's way down to Cornwall......always last to get anything down here!!
Just checked both water butts and one is full the other half way there. I never thought I would be pleased for the wet stuff but it'll definitely do the garden good and the nature pond critters will be pleased too.

Sorry about the cane, don't be sad though, they regrow. I've lost several really good ones before - off Malvern Hills and Bathsheba - due to wind.
