FWIW though I have two peonies that I repotted last year - one has 3 buds on it and one only has 1, both planted with their eyes above the soil as recommended and not too deep; both have been kept in the same conditions and watered/protected as required. I have no idea why one has produced so much less! From what I can tell though peonies are a plant that takes a bit of time to get going.
Thanks takhana I will take a look at that website. I watched so many videos before planting so I know I didn't bury too deeply and also left eyes above ground with some mulch ontop.
It might be better with the mulch around the plant rather than on top of it.
I planted it in June and when it arrived it had a few stems which just fell off a few weeks after planting but that could’ve been my neighbours cats. I only mulched over the eyes because they weren’t underground. I saw someone doing this in a video and as I’m only learning I did the same thing 😆
I forgot to mention that have two plants and again the other one only has one bud. This one was also a gift last year. I asked for peonie plants for my birthday but this one isn’t from primrose hall and has more of a purple colour foliage.
I have a few of that type and they do take a long time to establish after planting. Mine were planted autumn 2018 and most of them had no flowers in 2019. Most produced a single bloom in 2020 and I'm expecting no more than 2-3 blooms from each plant this year, judging by what I can see in the young shoots. The supplied bare roots were on the small side though (just 3 to four inches) and only had a couple of eyes, so yours may establish more quickly and produce more blooms in a shorter time, if they had more eyes than that.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
I've just seen your latest photo and can see you need to raise the soil a little as only the tips of the eyes should be seen above ground in the spring, with no corm showing.

I will deal with whatever she decides to give me this year but I think I might move them closer together in autumn. I really didn’t have a plan for my garden, I just threw in whatever I liked at the time. Wish I put more thought into it now 😁
