Lots of plants are poisonous but, with the exception of lily pollen accidentally rubbing on their fur as they pass, cats are sensible. I've had cats for decades and a garden almost as many years and have always grown foxgloves, aconitum and many more which appear on the "bad" lists. Never had any problems, even with lillies.
Ajuga reptans is a good ground cover plant when it's happy and comes in many forms including green leaved, variegated, dark purple and a new one to me with is speckled and has spiky shaped leaves like holly. It likes some shade and moisture but not being drowned. It has lovely short spikes of blue flowers in spring and is valuable for pollinators.

Hi everyone, looks like I may have been a bit overprotective with my cat! He does generally stay in my garden as he’s quite old, but does roll around a lot in my plants (probably for attention!). Will look forward to the aluja growing 👍🏻
I think this is ajuga Black Scallop that I planted end of Sep 2019 and has spread nicely over gravel. The one you can see in the background in the first picture is, I think, ajuga Braunherz planted at the same time, but you can see hasn't spread or flowered to the same extent. I've not grown this before but very pleased with how quickly the BS has spread. I think you'll like it, Neil.
