Hi - please could you help me identify this plant. The emerging flower looks a bit like a foxglove (?) but the leaves don't seem to. Thanks!

great thankyou! only just getting into gardening and i ordered a lucky dip of perennials. I have a cat and I stupidly planted them all without looking at what they were and then got alarmed when this one started looking a bit like a foxglove! Will be a nice surprise when they all grow though. thanks again

Hi @Neil72 welcome to the fantastic hobby of gardening! Ajuga are often easy plants to look after, but give them a drink if they’ve not had rainfall for a few weeks. They’ll spread by stolons so you’ll have lots of plants in no time!

They prefer shade and damp, you don't like Foxgloves?
  • They're supposed to be cat killers @Nanny Beach

Thanks all! I do like foxgloves but yes with the cat they’re a no-go unfortunately

I've got the 'Black scallop' cultivar in my garden. Still young but really spreading. ;)

I grow foxgloves and a neighbour's cat practically lives in our garden. She's very much alive and kicking. Most cats are too sensible to eat stuff that's bad for them. They eat grass which seems to make them throw up, but that's apparently to get rid of furballs.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

Does your cat stay in your garden?
    In London. Keen but lazy.
