We’re spending a week in Wales in August, near Devil’s Bridge in Aberystwyth. Bodnant would definitely be on my list to visit — are there any other gardens or great natural areas recommended for a visit in Wales?
Thank you @edhelka, I've never been to Bodnant. Thank you @punkdoc. I've just been watching the programme about the making of Bridgewater, which I'd recorded, so it was good to see it after all the work and planting.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
@Athelas The whole north Wales is very beautiful, my husband and I do a lot of hiking, and there are many possibilities for easy walks. Portmeirion is a nice place to visit. I also plan to visit the Powis castle and its gardens. But be warned that Wales isn't well-connected, travelling between places takes time (Aberystwyth to Bodnant garden is a 2-hour drive).
If in North Wales do not miss Plas Brondanw Clough Williams-Ellis' own garden which is absolutely wonderful. Spent a couple of hours on our own three years ago, it was magical. And you can really see the picturesque aspects of Portmeirion but in a much more intimate expression.
Visited Parham House Gardens earlier, they're in progress of refurbishing parts of the walled garden to get rid of parennial weeds but still a lot of lovely things to see
