Cosmos

Hi there I’m growing from seed dwarf cosmos and I’ve sown my seeds in a very large pot so my question is can I leave my seedlings to grow or do I still need to pot them out indervidually or can I just leave them to grow x

    Personally l would pot them up into individual pots once the first "true" set of leaves have appeared.
    That way they can form strong root systems before planting out. Don't be tempted to put them into too big a pot, 7cm or so is fine.

    Pot them singly into 7cm pots and pinch out the tops after three pairs of true leaves.

    Cosmos is a very common wildflower - some say weed- in Brazil. For best results, sow them direct at the beginning of June in poor, sandy soil. The dwarf variety will flower within 6 weeks and not get above a half a meter tall. What they need most is sun and warmth. NB this advice does not apply to the tall pink and white variety, Cosmos pinnatus, which should be grown as a normal half-hardy annual, ie. in the greenhouse  in February, with heat - slower growing. Good luck! PS Much too early to put out unless you live in Cornwall.

    I'm potting mine individually in 7cm pots. It's laborious but it'll prevent plants competing with each other.

    I sow mine in seed trays, thinly, I don't pot them on because I have about 50, and it isn't feasable, I do this every year, with no problem

    Snap @Nanny Beach, I left mine in the seed trays last year, no potting on and they were fine so will be doing the same this year.
