You can also just suck on the end of the hose pipe at the lowest end to begin the flow from the bath.

I'd rather not  :# but yes you could.
For anyone interested there are also small pumps available powered by an electric drill or screwdriver

It wouldn't work for me - I bath/shower last thing at night and I don't want to be mucking about outside in the dark in my nightie :open_mouth:

Yes, that's why siphons are handy.
  • I’m thinking of doing this but with a grey water butt beneath the bathroom window. This summer we have showered with buckets on the shower floor and get about 20l a day on the beds that way.
  • Suppose if used straight away would work, but there are issues around storing grey water because of the high bacteria content

My plan is to use the grey water from the butt the next day for watering with cans, and direct whatever's left on to the garden with a hose connected to the butt tap. Just waiting for a new tap to be delivered (the old one broke so I've ordered a new one with a push-fit for a hose). Last night's bathwater went straight on to the garden (all on one spot) and this morning it's soaked in so well that I can hardly tell it was there.

If grey water is going via a butt, expect to have one smelly butt!

Ah, but is a full but smelly butt better than an empty butt? :D

@JennyJ Maybe you can run a forum trial for us - the effects of grey water butt use - sweet or smelly?  :D
