Hopefully shouldn't be much to worry about. It's not particularly late for frost, even down here. And  I don't think the last cold snap was remotely comparable - everything stayed frozen for days on end whereas next week daytime temps will be well above freezing.

I'm wondering if I should try to wrap up the flowering quince which is covered in buds and put something on the asparagus which has just started poking up.
  • 😄 just saw this thread the second after posting one myself asking for canna lily protection advice. Beginner gardener here very worried about my beautiful new growth being wiped away next week in the UK.

The blossom buds on our pear tree are fat, but they’re not open yet ... fingers are crossed 🤞

Same here Dove, also apple buds look not far off.  Have 3 plums/gages in bloom though, so I'm trying to enjoy the blossom as it is, just in case that's all there is from those this year.

@BobTheGardener the pear is a freestanding espalier so I’m wondering if there’s a way to fleece the arms without doing more harm than good if the wind gets up ... that’s if we can find where we stored the roll of fleece 🙄

You could try wrapping it over the espalier arms then pegging it loosely together at the bottom @Dovefromabove.

That’s sort of what I was thinking @Lizzie27 ... as long as the wind doesn’t whip the fleece around and pull the buds off. Depends which direction it’s coming in ... 🌬

I've got a green gage and plums in bloom too. According to the Met Office there'll only be sub zero temperatures for a few hours but I'm still stressed!
