How to choose professional advice or services in a garden?

  • When our ash tree had to come down, we paid the council to do it. 100% guaranteed they have the correct insurance. I had a young maple removed a few years ago and picked a local tree surgeon who was well reviewed.

Don't think a decorating company would be much good @nerijus.vr, but nice try....
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • I just though it would be a good advice as very often local companies can do all sorts of jobs :)

    I see you've removed your link @nerijus.vr . That's where the problem is/was, and it's why you've been flagged as spam.  :)
The thread's old anyway, and was resurrected by someone else posting a link, so it's unlikely to be much use to the OP.

Not your fault @februarysgirl - another person posting links resurrected the thread, so it's easy to think it's a current thread.  :)
They were flagged and removed, but there was another  ;)

Painters and decorators aren't usually proficient when it comes to tree surgery, and you can keep changing your name, but if you keep trying to advertise for free, you'll just keep getting flagged, as you'll see on the other thread you've done it on   :)

  • Thanks for the advice! I am just a beginner and I would love to find a mentor.
Try and find your local horticultural Association group. Your local council should have a contact to give to you. Failing that, the Royal Horticultural Society could help you with local groups, shows courses etc.

If you have a go at spammers, the threads no longer makes sense. Delete the spam and have done.

Back here after a busy period doing other things, then some time catching up with gardening. Lots to cut back and clear.

Still haven't found a tree surgeon. Had loads of positive sounding replies along the lines of "we're very busy but we'll try and pop round in two weeks on Thursday ". Then a no show without a phone call. We've had this from all tree surgeons who work in our area,  even worked round them twice in the past 9 months. They're all highly respected and trained tree surgeons.  Not the dodgy ones who will work this area from Morecambe/lancaster!

One is used by the golf course in the next village that our neighbour knows.  Another is one who's got a whole alphabet of letters after his name and not just the trade ones most good tree surgeons have. He specialises in tricky removals too. It's just that they're too busy with big jobs.

It's like this with all the trades too. Some builders have a two years waiting list for new jobs! Book them now and two years later they'll turn up to do the job!!!! Others have year and half wait. So frustrating.
