I miss Jim McColl RIP. In the earlier episodes he seemed annoying but in more modern ones he was ok.
Carol is too English is for me in a Scottish gardening programme. In fact, I am annoyed in general that Beechgrove has more english than Gardeners World has Scottish. "United" Kingdom my ass. Climates are different I understand but if I watch a Scottish Gardening programme I want Scottish accents.
I love how everyone is so quick to criticise. I wonder how well any of us would have done during a r*ddy pandemic, with shortages of everything - not least staff, which is surely the most important commodity in maintaining any garden, especially a large one.

@punkdoc@Fairygirl 😳 How embarrassing, l misunderstood. When l saw "RIP" l thought he'd gone to the great garden in the sky. Glad to know he's still around. Haven't watched last night's programme yet, plan to do so while having my breakfast.
@gondor I'm afraid you're being very parochial. I knew many Scots both in the 20 years we lived and worked in London and in the 25 years we were in Belgium. They don't all have broad Scottish accents and there are many regional variations, just like the soil and the weather. Depends on where they live and went to school and Carol's accent is definitely not standard or regional English.
Given that most big gardens, whether private, open to the public or TV sites, had to furlough their staff and just keep one or two on site there are bound to be problems with maintenance. I like the way the programme is showing us what went to pot, what did well and what has been achieved so far in getting it all back under control.

I agree totally @Obelixx. It's why we, in the west, often poke fun at the Morningside accent [Edinburgh] as it's rather posh. Many folk in the Borders sound more 'English' than Scottish too. A very odd post altogether

Yes! I knew one of those Edinburgh types in Brussels @Fairygirl. Very precise way of speaking. One of my best friends is from Glasgow and speaks very quickly and I sometimes understand her better when she's speaking Flemish. I've known others who didn't sound Scottish at all. One of OH's golfing pals here is one of those.

Your ridiculous post about only Scottish sounding people to be allowed to present on Beechgrove deserved a bit of pushback. Nationalism maybe the flavour of the month, but it really doesn't matter where the presenters are from or what they sound like if they do the job they were hired to do.
