BBC has a bit too much obvious box ticking in GW, but that's to be expected with them I guess.
Not sure what point you're trying to make, too many brown people for your liking? Too much basic seed showing? Are you part of the anti license brigade? Always worth asking about such lazy throwaway comments.
The programme itself was enjoyable to watch and I definitely don't get irritated by a 5min segment in a home garden. It was funny how when they returned to the multi million pound garden of Monty he would tell us on camera you don't need a fancy plot to garden 🤣 oh Monty, never change.
It's always the privileged ones that tell the other half they don't need all those riches to do as well. So yes trying to shoehorn "relatability" is one of the worst tropes of the programme but this country responds well to their overlords telling them to be happy with what they have.
It could well be the story of the current government and how everyone turns the other cheek amidst rampant corruption. But hey I bet you'll think I'm reading too much into it.
I agree with those who don't like the vast majority of the home videos. They mainly seem to feature pretentious kids or adults who think they are talking to people with the IQ of a slug.

I think it strikes a pretty good balance between gardening programme and 'lifestyle' magazine for people who just want to watch and not join in. I realise it annoys Hosta and some others, but so many people only watch it for the vicarious dog ownership and the vague dream of a lifestyle they think they want but never get around to actually pursuing. It's the BBC primetime TV, it has to be a broad church. If we insist on it being only for the die hard true gardeners, it'll be gone. I may be irritated by the home vids a lot of the time (I am), but some of them have been interesting and for people who have absolutely no experience of gardening, maybe they find it inspiring to see how easy it is.
Gardening on the edge of Exmoor, in Devon
“It's still magic even if you know how it's done.”
Loved it!and loved that tiny garden with the chap in the striped jumper.gunera in a pot?!fabulous.i always look at it in a garden centre and wonder why they sell it as it gets so big.not keen on the amount of little videos tho.that could go for me.and I love the dogs they are not vomit inducing what a wierd thing to say?!
I really enjoy the home videos - seeing the enthusiasm of others always makes me smile and gives me motivation for my own gardening. They are also more relatable to seeing Monty's very established (and large) garden. And I like learning from others' problem-solving ideas. In fact, the short snippet of the urban garden in Leeds (and his friend's front garden down the road) were the sections that I specifically called my OH over to watch. His tiny, shady garden is quite similar to ours and it was inspiring to see the potential of the space. (:
I also found it fascinating to learn that a plant like snake gourd exists!
I’ll not shed a tear if I do not see another clip on Gardeners’ World of some suburban garden got up to look like a sub tropical island.
I cannot help thinking the diversity coordinator on GW was rubbing his or her hands in glee when the video clips came in. “No matter that the garden looks like a junkyard, with this one we can tick boxes 3, 4 and 7.”
