Damaged Wall

I have this wall in garden the bricks of which are damaged
I'd like suggestions on what can be done to sort this
Would rendering be a good idea or would that also start to disintegrate over time?
Maybe cover with wood peices,I'm hapness at DIY so would need a labourer plus the cost of wood
all suggestions welcome, not keen on planting as I prefer modern look
Not looking for something overly expensive but don't what to do something that doesn't last
Thanks

Personally I would bother, spend some money on a few pots and plants
It would need repointing as I expect water has got in and  froze and blown the brick face. You could get some waterproofer and paint the bricks, it's a clear liquid but in the end it's a garden not a house wall and I am sure a lot of folk here have garden walls that are in worse condition than yours.

I wouldn’t bother at the moment ... it’s not too bad ... as has been said you can treat it with Synthaprufe or a similar water repellent (available from B&Q etc) and then mask it with an arrangement of pots of attractive plants 🪴

In a few years’ time you can get a local jobbing builder to replace any badly spalled bricks and rake out the joints and repoint. Not a huge job and you have a couple of years to save up before it really needs doing, all being well.
I wouldn’t cover the wall with render ... that’s a considerably bigger job and you’ll have to keep repainting it, and it looks awful if the render cracks.

That’s quite an attractive wall you have there. Just a little ‘characterful’.

  • Thanks for the advice, keep it coming
I do plan to plant in the borders so that should cover up the damaged area there
The patio wall,I could sand and cement to a certain height to cover up faults?
What do members think of painting the bricks grey as that is colour of fence on other side?
  • I love the colours of that brick wall as it is.  There’s an ‘honesty’ about it.  I’m really not keen on painted brickwork ... but then I’m an artist ... seven years at art school studying visual aesthetics ... plus I was married to a builder who specialised in renovating traditional buildings.

    But it’s your wall 😊

  • Lol...a jet wash might help make it come back to life, just seems dull to me
    I'm confused!

i agree with Dove. I like it as it is.
The trouble with cleaning or painting is that as soon as it's done, it starts to get worse.
left untouched brick looks better IMHO

  • How would cleaning damage wall or make it look worse
    I'm only trying to understand
  • An characterful old wall is sooo much more interesting than a bland new one ... or even a ‘new looking’ one. 😊

  •  :D I get ya so it won't actually damage it
I guess it's a case of personal choice
Could mortar be put into the bricks that are damaged at bottom or just sealant
I'm guessing the suggestion for sealant would be to do that to the whole wall
    Please mind my ignorance
