they removed " the monster hedge" but left that boundary totally open to the neighbours.
How many folk ask about adding privacy on this forum? and yet the garden lost all the privacy with nothing put back to replace " the monster hedge"

Shame its so far away from me @rachelQrtJHBjb as are many gardens . I did enjoy the Carol Klein series on the garden throughout the season
  • I liked it on the whole. I see it as being like Grand Designs. Not many would want or pay for the finished article but pick out some ideas that may work for them. Both families seemed delighted and felt they got value for money.
I think there was a lot of money in ground work and materials in the main one and they wanted it all done with minimal personal involvement. Plus they got a space they will use and enjoy every day and for the amount a lot of people spend on a car or kitchen. I know what I'd sooner have!
I'll be watching the next one.

  • I enjoyed it but thought the designs could have been better. I couldn’t see where the money had gone in the £1500 garden when the guy was doing the hard landscaping himself mostly using railway sleepers.  The plants were another £300 on top of the original budget. I was also irked at the ‘monster hedge’ comment in the other garden - it would have been fine just thining it back a bit as they were obviously put in for privacy in the first place.  (I’m another one who’s enjoyment of my garden has been all but ruined by a sudden lack of privacy (thanks to one neighbour) and it’s costing a fortune to regain!)
I’ll watch again for ideas. 😊

I’m looking at £550 just on wood that is cheaper than sleepers to create raised beds, so I can easily see £1500 disappearing on that garden myself.

As I have found myself, creating a new, very nice looking landscaped garden is not something that can be achieved for free, which is why mine doesn’t look great  I just plant things wherever they fit and try to coordinate and dig appropriately.

I thoroughly enjoyed the programme. We have lots of 'how to plant etc ' programmes but nothing like this. I don't have a large garden so liked the new build idea, impressed the owner wanted a nice space and resisted a bar and bbq area but seating for 2 hasn't he more than one friend?

The top budget garden was overcrowded in the end but there were a lot of ideas you could take away regarding screening and what to do with a different levels and most importantly the couple thought it was ideal for them.
Certainly didn't like the ugly exposed end of the conifer hedge though

  • £25K budget. Nice design work, but my interest was drawn to the low budget guy which is more in my financial league. I do like the concept used though, but after the first episode, I much preferred the home improvement series.
  • Is anyone else watching this this evening and wondering why you would place a dartboard on a shared boundary, leaving a huge gap above? Imagine if someone lobs a dart and it flies into the neighbouring plot and hits someone.

I didn't notice that Rachel but good point. I did wonder what the neighbours would think of the party place and all the lights though, not very considerate. I also thought the cost was way over the top for what they ended up with.

I preferred the other designer's plan overall.
