Watch who you buy plants from ... these have probably been stolen for resale

Many years ago family friends planted about 200 conifers to surround a paddock at the side of their house.  They got up the following morning to discover the lot had been stolen overnight.

The only creatures who would want to steal our lawn is birds,  it’s all moss.

I just learned about a tax in America that was imposed in 1964 to help US car makers by imposing import taxes on commercial vehicles. Now companies are using ridiculously wasteful tactics to get around paying it.

Ford imported all of its first-generation Ford Transit Connect models as "passenger vehicles" by including rear windows, rear seats, and rear seat belts. The vehicles are exported from Turkey on ships, arrive in Baltimore, and are converted back into light trucks by replacing rear windows with metal panels and removing the rear seats and seat belts. The removed parts are not shipped back to Turkey for reuse, but shredded and recycled in Ohio. The process exploits the loophole in the customs definition of a light truck; as cargo does not need seats with seat belts or rear windows, presence of those items automatically qualifies the vehicle as a "passenger vehicle" and exempts the vehicle from "light truck" status. The process costs Ford hundreds of dollars per van, but saves thousands in taxes. U.S. Customs and Border Protection estimated that between 2002 and 2018 the practice saved Ford $250m in tariffs.

Why do people hate trees so much? There was a lovely tree with copper coloured leaves in the garden behind my house and it was probably one of the older trees on my 25 year old housing estate. I'm sure it's a rental property by the latest tenant has just spent a few days trimming it with a carpenter's saw before eventually chopping the whole thing down. The tree was healthy and no risk to the house, and the new occupants haven't even lived there long enough to see it in leaf. I suspect it will be another house with plastic grass and a hot tub soon enough and they didn't want to deal with the leaves :|

Never mind. Come the summer, they'll be asking us for suggestions for a tree that will reach 2ft wide and 20 ft high by next year  because they need privacy.

I make my own bread but couldn't cut it straight if my life depended on it!
Can anyone recommend a gadget that would steer me straight?

I used to be convinced that a good bread knife is all anyone needed to cut straight, consistent slices but then I saw my wife attack a loaf like it had stolen her chocolate bar and changed my mind.
