If you're going to make paths, a patio or any other structures, do those before you improve the soil. No point in wasting good organic matter where there's going to be a patio.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
Back here again. I have been using an online tool to design how the garden may look like after done. its called floor planner if anyone interested.
What I am struggling now is the get some feedback and also to find what sort of plans, flowers etc will I need. unless i pay ££££ for some one to come and design the garden and make it amazing. I want to do it myself and hence turning to this wonderful forum. So far i have come up with this.
Can anyone recommend a better layout, style?
What flowers, vines, bushes etc i will need.
This is in UK and garden is around 22 meter by 8 meters.
With all those straight lines your gaze is going to be drawn right to the shed. You'll look past the side planting and fix on that window. As pretty as sheds can be, they're not the point of a garden, so... I'd curve the paths. Curve one in and back out, and then the other one. This gives you a couple of flower beds that will take shrubs. Plant something tallish, but see through (grass, bamboo) to slightly obscure the shed. If you move the decking to in front of the shed, that bit that is shaded by the leylandii becomes available for compost bins. Maybe some ferns? The plants are highly dependant on how much work you want to do. There are shrubs you can pretty much plant and ignore, and there are shrubs that need pruning twice a year. Stay away from anything enjoying ericaceous soil because you have definitely got clay (blueberries, heathers, azaleas etc.). Are you far enough south to have a grape vine?
Good suggestions on compost bin. i will plan for one in that corner. I wanted to keep most of the garden as lawn hence the straight lines. Anything curved is likely to reduce the lawn size.
Once the decking is moved in front of shed, then yes I could may be hide the shed somewhat with bamboo or tall grass.
Working with your layout, I'd suggest making the shed open out onto the little patio area to the left, making that space relate to the shed better as a little party hub. Line the path on the left up with the edge of the patio. I think that zone - the shed and end of garden patio - should be slightly screened off from the rest of the garden with a planting bed running from one side to the other, so it feels semi-secluded but obviously not totally screened off.
"What is hateful to you, do not do to your neighbour".
taking feedback onboard , this is what I have come up now. Hiding the shed behind some bamboo and putting a compost bin under tree, create an edge with flowers and some bushes.
Instead of a paved path, going for broken path ( if thats the term)
I like that more. The stepping stones can be flush with the grass so you can just mow right over them. And that highly regimented look with lots of parallel lines is softened. What else do you want from the garden? If you're going to sit out at night, then night flowering scented plants near where you sit are good (most plants stop working as hard after sunset).

excellent idea. yes we would want to sit out at night and in evening.
I now need to make a list of what plants, flowers, bushes are best for each section. if you have recommendations , please let me know.
The wall on left side needs to provide some privacy also , so need to think of some plants which are not too maintenance heavy and can provide some cover from neighbours.
Right side wall also same as the neighbours on right side are 1 meter above us.
apart from this, i cannot think of anything else as this layout provide pretty much all we want.

Have you thought of where the eg compost bin will go?
