Help needed on tech query, not gardening

I wonder if anyone can advise if it's easy to uninstall a Windows update? My laptop did so a couple of days ago and now thinks it's a tablet so I can now only post using a new popup keyboard. It's driving me mad. Help much appreciated, e

I expect your daughter's already tried this, but if not (and assuming you're on Windows 10):
click the Windows button and go to settings (cog symbol), click Ease of Access, scroll down and click Keyboard in the left column, make sure the "Use the on-screen keyboard" slider is set to Off.

  • Hi Lizzie

THE FOLLOWING IS FOR WINDOWS 10

    Try this
in settings and select the tab for "Tablet" then check at top of page and make sure the "when i sign in" box has the "never use tablet mode" selected

if you wanted to uninstall any updates do the following
go to "view update history" then select the "Uninstall updates " at top of page then it gives a list of updates and dates of when they were installed so you can uninstall the latest update that gave you the problem

I think the first option may help you out

then you can hopefully go back to normal laptop use

    Regards

  • Not sure what happened above. You can occasionally roll back from updates in the following menu...

  • Windows 10 is a nightmare, even for an IT professional. It seems like every new version changes a critical troubleshooting or recovery step. I’ve pretty much completely given up on it, except for some really specific software.

You can contact Microsoft themselves, I've done this about a problem in the past and they were helpful.

Thanks everybody. Much appreciated, I'll show my daughter your replies and let her have a go!!  I can always use the desktop - but not in the incliner!

  • I agree Windows 10 is a pain in the neck.  After numerous problems after updates, the guy who I employed to try to sort things out, advised that my only option was to re-instal Windows 7! which I'm using again now.  Don't know how long it will be useable though!
