Why no berries on Holly this year?

They appear to be very scarce, I have found no berries on any Holly I've seen this year so far.

How strange - I would have said that this is the best year I've ever seen for berries generally, and holly in particular! Different parts of the country, perhaps?

  • Curious indeed.
    I'm in the midlands.
What about others, is it a localised thing?

  • We have a fantastic crop of holly berries in Norfolk and Suffolk this year 😊

    Pretty normal amount here.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Plenty Holly berries here.

Are these holly bushes that you know have had berries on other years?
Maybe they are male trees and never have berries.
    Perthshire. SCOTLAND .
  • One of our holly trees was full of berries and then......one berry left.
Yes the birds have got them.
  • Thank goodness for that,
was beginning to think I was seeing things, or not seeing things maybe...
Yes, Holly bushes that I usually gather cuttings & sprays from, totally devoid this year.
    Maybe it is birds.

We get plenty of holly berries but I don't even bother looking for Christmas decorations. I know they'll all be gone. Pigeons are partial to them.
    In London. Keen but lazy.
