Help something eating my heuchera

  • Thanks all, I dug the fennel up to save it, it's in a temp pot.  When I planted it a month ago it was a massive healthy plant.  But it has just been eaten.  the Heuchera will be in the same state as the fennel in about 2 weeks ☹️.  The bed is in full sun most of the year and free draining because of the slope you can't see, the wall you might be able to see if only a foot tall.  Sorry I should have thought about giving a better aspect to the picture, I was more interested in any ideas about what is eating my plants, hence the close ups.
Many thanks for your help all keep the ideas coming. I'm just about to go out in the dark and see if there are slugs about 🧐

Heucheras are best in shade. A healthy plant will shrug off slug/snail damage, so it isn't really anything to worry about.
I think the fennel is more likely to have rotted than been eaten, if the soil is anything to go by. It looks very heavy and claggy. A slope doesn't necessarily mean the ground is free draining. If it did - no hills would be wet apart from at the bottom ;)

Unless you have rabbits or deer accessing your garden?
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Hi, keen to learn if the Fennel has rotted where have the fronds gone? Wouldn't I see them wilt and die?

Def squirrels, hedgehogs and foxes, but the back fence has a 5 foot drop below the fence into the wood, we def have deer but I have never seen them in the garden and I have lots of roses.

Interesting about soil, I wouldn't have said it was claggy but here to learn. Still working out what works, lavender and roses work well 😊
