Eeek Chive don't say that! I'm imagining it arriving in a huge 'pass the parcel' style box now with a gazillion layers of packing to unwrap. I used to love it when Cato used to leap out on Clouseau when he was least expecting it.

Evening all, Had a bit of a shock yesterday.  We learned that Secondborn's first husband has died.  He was an alcoholic and despite all our efforts he wouldn't accept that he had a problem and would not agree to seek any sort of professional help. His parents were both alcoholics and even after friends managed to get him into rehab (twice) his parents got him straight back into drinking.  Secondborn thought the world of him but couldn't live with his alcohol issues and left him after a year of marriage.  He continued to drink more and more and basically drank himself to death he was found by his social worker.  A terrible way to die and he was only 40.  Secondborn is devastated thinking that perhaps she could have done more to help when she was with him.  She couldn't.  You can't make someone give up drinking unless they really want to.

Hi LB dads results haven’t come through as yet, fingers crossed.   Chive you sound very cosy.  LB you’ll have your mini lights on and curled up with Lily.  I have Alfie sleeping at my side.    Yvie sad news, I’m so sorry to hear that.  Goodnight, everyone, sleep well.

Oh Yvie. That is such very sad news indeed and you are right. Alcoholism is a dreadful disease and your daughter must NOT blame herself as there was nothing she could have done. In fact she made the bravest and best decision to leave him so soon into their marriage. I hope she can reconcile that in her mind quickly and move on. No age at all, such a great pity. I feel immensely sorry for the social worker who discovered him too.

Goodnight Rosie. Yes, my lights are on and Lily is curled up asleep beside me. I wish that I could sleep as easily as she does.

  • Oh Yvie, that's such sad news and a terrible shock. I echo what LB has already said. You're daughter mustn't blame herself.  Sending my very best wishes to your daughter and yourself.  You really have had some worrying times these last few months. Take care Yvie, big hugs.

    Night night everyone, sleep well.
