I'm inclined to agree with you on that @Posy, re the alleged bias.
I'm just finding it relentlessly depressing now, so I give it a miss. I hear the news on the radio at various points through the day, so that's enough for me  :)

Depressing? I'll say! Mind you, it's difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel just now, no matter how positive you are. I can remember when I thought it couldn't get any worse.... then Covid arrived.

I've been through much worse times @Posy, so I'm grateful for every day I'm alive.
Nothing much fazes me now    ;)

I understand, FG  and personally  things could be much worse for me  too. But I fear for those who face illness or poverty or oppression  and sometimes all of these. I'm a child of the 60's, when I was naive enough to imagine that all we needed was love. Mind you, politics is a guilty pleasure for me, I love it!

I also have fears for people in a 'certain situation' @Posy [that's all I'm saying] and it's why I'm grateful to still be here, breathing.
Funny you saying about the 60s, and as we approach the anniversary of John Lennon's murder, I often wonder what he would think of the mess the world's in. His ideal was so simple. Pity it can't be achieved eh?

I’m proud of the BBC. Most days I watch their news bulletins, either early or late evening and sometimes both. I also keep a regular watch on the BBC news website. In the main I think their factual broadcasting is free of bias though some of their drama output shows distinct left leaning tendencies. That’s a counterbalance to the right orientation of much of our print media. I don’t have any issue with ITV or Channel 4 news broadcasts either but mostly from habit more than anything else I’m with the BBC.

I am not, however, a fan of the regional news broadcasts. In the main they’re as dull as a leylandii hedge.

Not unrelated, I heard on the BBC the other day that if the British were voting in the US presidential election the split would be 80:20 in favour of Biden. I found that rather heartwarming and echoed my perception that nobody I speak to has a good word to say about Trump. Interested in finding more about this analysis I googled the story and, my goodness, I misheard. It was actually 80:20 in favour of Trump. The source of this story? A readers’ opinion poll in the Daily Express. Nuff said.

I believe the BBC is a tremendous asset to our country. It has integrity and its standards are often held up as a benchmark around the world. It raises the profile of our nation on the world stage as we edge ourselves out of the spotlight through our increasing, and depressing, insularity.

I watch BBC News for the information provided, not the opinion of the BBC staff, many of whom make no attempt to hide where their personal loyalties lay.  If the new BBC Director General can get them back to reporting without political partiality, it will go a long way to regaining public trust.

I'm conscious that the BBC was designed for people like me. I don't always recognize bias because I share it without necessarily realizing that I do. And then, when I talk to people with profoundly different ideas, I do see that they go unheard. There is a fascinating area of discussion about what and whose opinions should get air time, but this site is probably not the place for it.

This is a good place for an intelligent and mostly civilised exchange of views when compared to the rabid exchanges that occur on other sites - especially when gardening activities are winding down for most of us.

I prefer Channel 4 news to the BBC. Channel 4 seem to give more in depth reporting and are not afraid to scrutinise the guests the way they should be. Asking the difficult questions that should be asked.

The BBC for me are just to nice to be taken seriously when it comes to dealing with some of the lies that some of their guests seem to get away with and in many cases it appears to me they give certain ministers an easy ride when they should be getting a good grilling.
