Growing lillies, stargazer and oriental

What do you do with yours in the winter and how do you plant it? Mine grow to about 2 feet tall and are in pots because they seem to get rotted off in the ground, or maybe they just don’t like the condition. id like to get some in the borders though so is it good to grow some individual bulbs in small pots ready to sink…
