People's circumstances are not set in stone @delski I find your narrow viewpoint in these times astonishing or is it that you are unable to empathise with the people that have lost their jobs,  homes,  businesses through this pandemic? Thank goodness YOU are alright though.

Can you guess which of these hampers is provided in house by Leeds City Council for £11.70, vs the one outsourced to a private company with links to billionaire Tory donors?

Leeds City Council, by the way, pays all its workers a living wage.

Tory privatisation doesn't work. It is theft.

I think it is time that Jamie Oliver did some TV on how to cook basic meals.  As a student on a very tight budget, I learnt how to budget and cook cheap nutritious meals.  I knew that if I ran out of money before the term was up, there would be no more money arriving.  I don't think any child should be hungry, but I know that  family would rally round. As a child, I had three sets of clothes. One for school, one for playing , one for best.  We never had foreign holidays, my parents never went to the pub or meals out, but we never went hungry.  We never got free school meals either, because my dad would work overtime , and  he always earned just over the limit.  This year is exceptional, and many families will have less money and are struggling, but I do not believe that anyone cannot afford basic food.  Yesterday I watched a woman complaining that the box her child was sent home with was not enough to feed her family  for a week. No, she gets child benefit to do that. The box was to replace 5 school lunches, and I could make 5 lunches out of it.  The mother didn't look like she had ever gone hungry in her life either.

If a child is already struggling with parents who are unable to manage for whatever reason it’s surely unfair to add to their burden by keeping them short of food?
Some people are poor parents, that’s beside the point, most people receiving these boxes are brilliant parents trying their hardest to feed their children in desperate times. Whatever the situation no child should go hungry.
I am very pleased that this issue has been highlighted but wonder what punishment will be given to those who have stolen taxpayers money.
