šŸ‘ Biglad. Years ago, when Manchester City were looking to name a new stand at Maine Road, they held an online opinion poll. It was hijacked by Manchester Utd fans who truly were united in the belief homage should be paid to Colin Bell by naming the stand The Bell End.

In USA English it would be taking a fanny wouldn't it?Ā  Ā Not something to be taken lightly.

I think the term ā€˜taking a knee’ (which does indeed involve just one knee) is used because it implies making a choice from more than one option ... they are ā€˜taking the knee option’ rather than taking the ā€˜hand on heart’ option and, as I’m sure you know, has been chosen to reflect the historical and ongoing subservient position of African-Americans who were taken against their will to the US, rather than the hand on heart choice of ā€˜free citizens’.Ā

It has been given more prominence with the use of the knee as a weapon of subjugation by some police officers.Ā

I understand why it is used and have no problem with it, although grammatically it sounds awkward. I look forward to the day when no one feels the need to take thatĀ option.Ā

At the name of Jesus, every knee shall bow xxxxxxxx everyone will take a knee.
