  There is sometimes confusion about ‘no mess’ bird seed and ‘no grow’ bird seed. 

  
  

  ‘No mess’ birdseed has had the seed husks removed so that the birds don’t discard them on the ground and make a mess.

  Whereas ‘No grow’ birdseed has been treated to ensure that any discarded seeds cannot germinate.

  Any seed has the potential to grow.
  Decent quality stuff has less of it. Sunflower hearts are always better than the whole seed as they're treated. It's also less waste and more economical.
  This subject has been covered hundreds of times. It's really very simple

  Millet is a favourite of house sparrows ... as they’re on the RSPB red list it’s good to encourage them by providing suitable food and nest sites.

  Hello everyone,
  Thank you for your suggestions....I got some 'liked' bird food now and will (still) be thinking about the 'old food/seed' a bit longer..
