What is this fungus / mold stuff?

  Thank you Pansyface, I am sure that must be it. I am glad it is not something sinister. Having read the article, I tend to agree that it must have come from the sack of farmyard manure (nursery purchase) I dug in last February, I remember there were some whitish bits in it. I have now scraped it all off but I expect it will not be it’s last visit! Thanks again.

  I have this in many places around our raised beds. I don’t think it’s a slime mould. It has taken some plants so I’ve been searching for an answer for a while now.
  I am wondering how you’ve got on this year?

  It looks like it may be a harmless coral slime mould - enjoy it's weird beauty while it lasts as it'll vanish soon. It won't harm any plants.

  Htyas, it is a year since I posted about the slime mould and I am glad to say that there was no sign of it this year, and the planters bloomed really well.

  Hi, the reason I don’t think it’s a slime mould is because it lasts many many weeks

  Slime moulds live for an indefinite period of time - some are effectively immortal!
  Even if they dry out completely for years, as soon as they get wet again they're off searching for food within hours.
  Some remain tiny, others can grow very big and weigh up to 50lbs
  
  The entire structure is effectively a single cell and the entire structure can move around in search of food. They live off other fungi, bacteria and yeasts.
  They can learn from each other, they can remember where they have been and they can make decisions - yet they have no brain.
  They are fascinating organisms
