Is it time to clear the cosmos...?

Has been raining for days. Looks like it will rain on and off for the next 4 days and then sun predicted for a week or so after this. Has anyone pulled out their cosmos already? Mine are still flowering with lots of buds still but they've flopped - I haven't staked them effectively enough. Wondering whether I should just cut my losses and pull them out or wait and see.

If they are annoying you, get rid. If not, they might survive for a few more weeks. They often survive to November here. Most of mine look awful this year so I'll be composting them very soon. In other years they looked good for a couple more months.

It depends if you want to replace them with something else. The ones in my front garden have been battered by the weather and will be removed this week to be replaced by wallflowers.

No need to clear the cosmos - come the judgement day, God will see to it!   :)

Thanks all. @josusa47 B) . @B3 yes this is it - if I knew that they will perk up on the few sunny days that we have in store I'd wait it out. Still lots of flowers and buds but just very droopy and weather beaten. That said, @AnniD I do like the idea of replacing them with wallflowers. Will they flower now?

I usually buy bare rooted wallflowers locally. They won't flower until the Spring,  but at least it means that l'm not looking at bare soil over Winter !

You can buy ones that flower sooner but they're horrible sludge colours like old mixed plasticene

I like that idea @AnniD and also I want to get my bulbs planted, so maybe I'll do some selective cosmos removal...

@B3 I know exactly what you mean!!!

My cosmos are just getting started!  They tend to to best from Sept to the frosts.

I already did because I needed the pot it was in. It was still in flower but weather damaged.

@Fire I'm really envious. Did you start yours from seed? If so when did you sow them?

@edhelka yes mine too - I didn't think the variety I have would grow as tall as it has done and I should have staked them properly. I will do next year.
