Again, thanks for the advice @Fairygirl, the bubble wrap is being delivered today 😟, I got a bit enthusiastic being a newbie and watching You Tubes so will attempt the wrapping anyway. I do have a fair few plants in pots ( approx 80) from plugs that arrived last month, I got a bit seduced by plant catalogues. I also sowed some seeds last month which are very small but will be in pots. I have a feeling im going to have way too many plants in the spring if they all survive. As an aside I wish i’d known that Parkers, Sutton’s and Fothergill’s all reduced their prices in late September though.
@punkdoc I have a Salvia guarantica in a pot. I was going to put that in our unheated greenhouse. Should I also leave all of the foliage on until next Spring? Do I water it occasionally just to keep the soil slightly moist? Would I need to wrap the pot in fleece?
@KeenOnGreen. I do not grow that one, but I know it is not reliably hardy. I would bring it into g/h, keep barely moist and then cut back when it starts growing next Spring.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
Thanks @punkdoc I had a feeling it would probably be something like that. I over-wintered it in the ground last year, with no problems, but for space reasons I had to pot it this year.
I've overwintered guaranitica hybrids in the ground and in pots in sheltered spots outside (no greenhouse) but it is risky if we get a hard winter. Wet isn't a problem here but if you have a heavier soil than I do it could be an issue.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
