Abundence of Grapes

I have 41 bunches of grapes that are ripening at the same time apart from eating them and no time to make wine any suggestions what I can do with them?

My aunt used to can them for grape juice.  From memory, she used to just rinse them and pack them into a jar with a bit of sugar, then can them in her pressure cooker.  When it was time to drink the juice, she just drained the liquid to drink and composted the fruit.  She used Concord grapes.. but if you have seedless with a thin skin, you could save the canned grapes for over yogurt or something.

Last year I made some grape jelly with rosemary but we haven't actually eaten any yet.....  https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/grape-rosemary-jelly

  • The grape and rosemary jelly is great. I add a splash of balsamic to it.

Crush them and add some wine yeast.
  • We’re in the same boat, it’s been a fabulous year for ripening grapes
There’s a recipe for apple and grape chutney on BBC Food, can’t comment as I haven’t tried it.
I’m going to have a go at the weekend making my own raisins. Probably won’t get them dry enough to store for a long time, but do like the thought of being able to use my own. Good excuse for some early Autumn baking 🙂
Also you could freeze some to use as fruity ice cubes in drinks or with cheese.

  • Many moons ago I made a recipe fpr Grape Water Ice. Unfortunately I have lost the recipe and haven't found it again. It was delicious. Made with whisked egg white and fresh grape juice. A lovely substitute for ice cream.

You can just freeze them, and eat them frozen as a healthy snack treat.

  • Grapes contain so much sugar you may as well eat a chocolate bar as a healthy snack 😉
