Curry smell in garden

  The curry smell seems to be coming from a lilac anyone heard of this before

  Just sniffed my lilac and no smell at all.
  I remember similar here though, is it an infestation of a certain insect? 

  Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

  A friend of mine visited Kew some years ago and there was a really strong smell of curry. I have emailed her to see if she can remember which one it was, apparently it was Escallonia myrtoides (spelling ?). 
  She said it was very powerful, made her feel hungry 😁
