  • Realise problem gift has been solved...very generously.

When we moved our new tiny garden was just grass.
Well meaning friends very kindly bought us plants.
Plants that I would never have put in a tiny garden...eg Ilex aquifolium /Holly
We had to plant the holly so they could see their gift growing

    I know what I like.
What I have already . ..and what I want...colour wise and to suit growing conditions.
Large shrubs as gifts can be tricky....here we have no room for duplicates.
Bulbs..well those can be popped in.. anywhere...always most welcome.

Roses were suggested as a gift....goodness where would you start to chose one for a friend...rampant climber or  tiny patio rose...what colour...so much choice.

    Sounds like a fine choice @a1154 :)

My mum used to be pretty organised @BenCotto although she only bought for the following Christmas. A fair proportion were bought in January sales, which made the Christmas after she was killed (in July) even more emotional.

I'm a big fan of people dropping unsubtle hints for gift ideas. That way you avoid a big bugbear of mine - the waste of unwanted presents. Yesterday I told daughter number one that I could do with a proper kneeler for gardening. Don't get much more unsubtle than that  :D
