Does fern live on trees and on stones?

The ferns are very attractive. But... Fern lives on trees and also on rocks... Then how do they eat nutrients?

  • I haven't watched the video, but nutrients do collect on trees and in crevices in rocks. Plants growing on other plants without parasitising them are called epiphytes.

Oh, I see. Thank you. That video with fern is so beautiful and fun. Perhaps the fern like water... I was curious about fertilizers because ferns in the video were found parasitic on rocks in the mountain and on wood indoors.

    I've got deja vu.....
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Yep @Fairygirl just boosting the algorithm once more by making links around the web

    Water it from above!
I have green thumbs and no aphids on my roses.
  • Oh blast, I missed that of course, not having checked the link. This combination of somewhat random musing meandering post with a weird video link might indicate a boosting purpose.
  • It’s a bit unfair to label
    dear Fern parasitic 🧐

  • @Dovefromabove I went to the trouble of distinguishing epiphytic from parasitic, sounds a lot better!

You did @micearguers ... I was not casting aspersions at your good self (perish the thought 😲) ... but the OP continued, despite your clarification, to say "... ferns in the video were found parasitic ..."  An unfair calumny against Ms Britton and all the other Ferns https://playback.fm/people/first-name/fern  including of course, my favourite Fern, Dryopteris affinis Cristata 'The King' .... known in my garden as Elvis 😎 🎸

  • Hehe @Dovefromabove I'd missed that, sloppy reading as usual. I am very much a fernafficionado, with many species and at last count 70+ ferns, but no Cristata. Just that nickname 'Elvis' makes it sound desirable. Come to think of it, don't think I have any nickname. O noes! The subject might make a good thread.
