Whether or not an individual LIKES the notion of same sex dancing, its introduction will surely scupper a programme that has topped the rankings for years. If the activists want such a competition, by all means stage a 'SSS', Same Sex Strictly, so that viewing popularity can determine its future, but merging it into the current format will reduce the existing audience by losing those who find the concept distasteful, and the voting will almost certainly become farcical as the LGBT world floods the voting system with partisan support, whether justified or not. Simon Cowell will be rubbing his hands?
As someone who "lives in" the LBGT world (in that I am a gay man; we don't have a world of our own as far as I am aware) I can safely say that I won't be voting for someone just because of their sexuality in much the same way I do not vote for someone just because they are born: northern; ginger; a man; small in stature.
There are same sex couples on many of the top rated programmes in the UK (based on viewing figures) and I don't/didn't see those suffer and get pulled from the schedules.
Whether or not a Strictly viewer LIKES the thought of same sex couples does not matter here.
We exist and we should not be hidden away or segregated from the rest of (the more accepted version of) society.
If it makes one uncomfortable then you are experiencing a little of what many minority groups feel on a daily basis when dealing with hatred; disgust; bigotry; micro-aggressions.
Us being visible does not convert non-LGBT people into an LGBT person but it may help someone struggling (often in a family with "traditional views" of the world) who feels alone.
I feel the world has come a long way in my 40 years BUT, as someone who had to listen to tutting and utterances of disgust when sitting in the cinema watching Downton Abbey when two men kissed (I felt pretty great listening to that!!), we definitely have a LOT FURTHER to go.
Same sex couples on Strictly is a small but very important step in my gay, ginger, northern opinion.
Tolerance and intolerance are learned cerebral behaviours, as are racism, sexism, bullying, bigotry and all the attractive human traits such as being loving and kind.
Physical characteristics such as hair, skin, eye colour and sexuality are genetic.

I was brought up "traditionally", hubby was in a bigoted household ( some things they said still make me shudder) but neither of us are that way. We have many gay friends and alot of the daughters friends are gay, so even if you are brought up to think that way its no excuse to act that way.
Odd thought - doesn't the same genetic make up then also make anyone's 'tastes' - so makes the bigot a bigot or is that nurture? If that follows, isn't it being intolerant to not also tolerate bigotry?
"What is hateful to you, do not do to your neighbour".
I think you can be predisposed to intolerance (or vice versa), whether genetic or just part of your personality. Maybe it stems from a fearful personality type, I dunno.
