Ordering Tulips now?

I'm planning to plant tulips in November, but I would like to order them now (to make sure I get the varieties I want).... is this a good idea and how best to store them for the next couple of months? Don't want them going all mouldy...

    I buy all my bulbs around this time each year, tulips in the same purchase order as daffodils. They go on the usual "store in a cool, dry, dark place" until November planting, I've never had an issue. I get a lot of my bulbs from Crocus and they often have several week shipping lead time also, so by the time the bulbs arrive it's only a couple of weeks until I plant anyway.

    I'd rather buy now and get what I want than wait and risk selling out. After all, there isn't much difference between them sitting in a garden center crate and sitting in my garage...

    Thanks strelitzia, I went ahead and ordered. Tulipa sylvestris and whittali, Erythronium 'Pagoda', Allium nigrum and Anemone blanda 'White Splendour will be mine soon!

    Peter Nyssen give you the option which week to have them delivered if you don't have anywhere to store them. Which was handy last year.

    I was looking at Boston Bulbs. They are whole sales but will sell in 25s bulbs, which ment the Alliums I wanted Nectaroscordum Siculum were only £8 ? which sounded good to me, plus there were other tulips I was thinking of so maybe will look into getting some.

    I ordered from rosecottageplants.co.uk - the Tulipa sylvestris was £3.50 for 10, whitallii was £5 for 10. Cheaper if you buy in 50s but my garden isn't exactly large.

    £8 for 25? That's an amazing price. I paid about £8 for 10 last year.

    This reminded me, I need to place a bulk order of daffodils and alliums, will go check Boston bulbs out!

    Nyssens are very good for letting you pick a time. Really useful if you're going to be away or if you don't have storage as @amancalledgeorge says.
    We don't have to worry too much here,as we can plant in October, even September sometimes, as it's cold enough.

    I might check out Boston Bulbs too, although I really can't justify buying any more... :|
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    I have placed an order this morning with Peter Nyssen for tulips. They'll be stored in the garage until such time as they're needed. As Fairygirl says, they do give you the option of selecting a delivery week.

    I’ve always used J.Parkers for bulbs, never let down on quality, delivery or price.
    Don’t  forget when planting bulbs that 10 bulbs fills a one square foot of soil or one tub.

    Ordered 20, I don't want a densely planted display so much as a naturalistic "scatter"; if it goes well I can always order more next time
