It looks similar to my Orange Dream.
  • Really? Do they get so dark in the summer?

My Orange Dream is nothing like this red Acer. Orange Dream starts off shrimp pink then turns green. Any new bits of growth have the juvenile colouring. I've just looked at mine and there are the first signs of autumn colour. I have one the colour of yours but there are many with red leaves. I'll do a bit of research and see what I can find out. A close up picture of a single leaf would be helpful. Mine is Acer palmatum, 'Atropurpureum' and this looks similar.

This will probably sound ridiculous, but the Acer in your original post, does not appear to be the same tree, as in the most recent picture.
How can you lie there and think of England
When you don't even know who's in the team

    My thoughts too.
Orange dream  or Katsura would never have red leaves.

  • They most certainly are, you can see the same main stem structure in V shapes. I think what is confusing people is that this is a predominately red/purple tree now showing signs of greening leaves. Not a green leaf tree that is showing orange/red
  • I recommend you go to a good garden centre now and look to see which ones you like now when they are in autumn colour...buy the one you like.
Either with fiery red colours OR golden and orange.
It will be many years before your baby will be as large as the ones in your pics.

  • Yes, very good suggestion.
As you've mention it, would anyone like to guess the age of the tree? 5 years? Older?

Thank you all for your help

I am sorry, I haven't noticed the picture with purple leaves (or I noticed it but not that it is the same tree). It can't be Orange Dream or any similar variety.
I am surprised that it can go from so dark purple to green and orange mix in two months. None of my acers shows autumn colours yet or only slightly.

    1st pic shows orange/yellow green tree 26th August 2020.
2nd pic shows same tree with deep red leaves.... June 2019 from Google.

My Acers are starting to colour up.
Depends where you live/night time temps etc. as to when they start.
