Several acres to clear

Hi And thanks for reading.

Just inheretied 10 acres of seriously overgrown land. So bad i  expected to see Tarzan and Jane strolling past any second.
I want to totally clear it of everything right down to the roots to create a blank canvas.
It is too big a project for a shovel, and i purchased weedkiller from wilkinsons which had no effect.
I am wanting to buy something cheap and cheerful, any recommendations.
I want to get rid of the roots so it can't grow back.
Anything low priced to do the job

Yes, pigs would do an admirable job of clearing the land, although you would have to build them a shelter, feed them and make sure they couldn't escape. Perhaps contact a local farmer and offer them free pasture?

Unless you spend money on hiring machinery and/or labour you aren't going to clear it quickly.
    Can you see what's growing?

I want to grow my own crops so want to clear the land asap.
Never done anything like this before so have no idea where to start.
    Thanks

As you want to grow crops, it's best to take your time and do it properly.
I'd not just go spraying it something " cheap and cheerful" if it were my land I wanted to grow food crops there

    What kind of crops too?
10 acres is on the large side for an average family, so are you meaning crops to produce and sell - as in a smallholding of some kind?
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Might you be able to rent out part for grazing and focus on a smaller portion?
How much time ,effort and money are you prepared to devote to this project?

There is never an asap solution to gardening.
Wait until autumn when things have died down will help but be realistic, 10 acres needs machinery to clear.
Are there any farms near you?

Thanks! Crops for myself. Probably not all the land, but do want to become self sufficent if possible.
Heard a few things about salt, vinegar and epsom salts. Any experience of this or is it totally wrong.
