@Nollie 'Rose slugs' - crikey - new to me. I'm sorry it's been such a battle. Have you had problems with rose saw fly too? Saw fly are so damaging because they can destroy foliage so fast. I've been working so hard to try and get the roses established.Â
I usually have the smaller green ones on the underside of leaves. I pick them and drop them... I am sure they can't get back on the plant, or can they? I guess something eats them before they do.
Sorry, confusing terminology Fire -  ‘rose slugs’ are common parlance for the caterpillar-like larvae of the rose sawfly, so one and the same thing. There are three different types and I have had two of the three - curled rose sawfly as well as the bristly ones. Probably all three.
I do find it is ‘plant it and they will come’ - when nobody else in a radius of 30km has a particular species, e.g no Berberis around here, they just find you. You have to admire then even as you curse them.
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Ah. I did wonder if they came to me on the foliage of various new roses but maybe the flies just flew. It's definitely 'gloves off' if they have any plans on sticking around.
