@Big Blue Sky love your weigela hanging basket. I didn’t realise you get get one that dwarf. We’ve just taken out a huge one that was taking up too much room but I’m very tempted to try a small one now.
Thank you 😊 It does seem to stay that compact even now after a full season of growth. I might need to trim it slightly just to keep that nice round shape. And seems to be happy with a hanging basket, well at least so far 👍

@didyw that dahlia is beautiful. I've tried to grow more single dahlias this year for exactly that reason - the bees really enjoy them. I love the leaf colour of that one too.

I have recieved from my neighbour, who has an allotment,
    Courgettes
    Runner beans
    Redcurrants
    Blackcurrants
    A tough leafed lettuce
    Cabbage
and now Gooseberries, all of which none of his household like.  Whats the point of growing everything if you dont like it? Im sure someone on GW,said take a tip from me and only grow what you like!😊
At least Ive filled my freezer with lovely berries!

My success has been double Begonias, the first time Ive ever grown them from tiny plugs
They have looked quite stunning,in some beautiful colours,my disasters are too many to mention, but Dahlias is one of them. The slugs like them too much, even though they are in pots.
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.

I just realised I don't know how to pronounce either heuchera or weigela!

Thanks for the tip about netting or a grill over the garden water-collecting things. I feel guilty when I see a poor bumble bee struggling to get out.

Another mistake I made this year was buying too many clematises and other climbers before having the trellises / wires in place for them to grow on. The local Homebase and Wilko are poorly stocked, I think because of lockdown.

@Valley Gardener I completely agree - better to grow what you like to eat, but at least you struck lucky on account of it!!

I got some double begonia corms as a free gift with an order earlier this year and planted them up in pots. I didn't expect much, I'd always thought of myself as "not a begonia fan" but they've come up and they're beautiful. I am learning to garden with a more open mind.

I'm with you on the dahlias...

We have an allotment and are always amazed at how much the other plot holders throw away or leave to go to waste. I have a box outside the front of our house for people to help themselves to surplus produce, I hate to throw away good food (freezer takes a good deal but not everything is freeze able).
Not growing Florence Fennel again, nobody really liked it and it bolted really quickly.

I don't mind folk growing stuff they won't necessarily eat themselves as long as they've got grateful recipients who will. It's having fruit/veg that will go to waste which is a bit baffling.

    Successes for this year:

Dividing my heuchera Cherry Cola and now having three of them!

Watching my bay tree and the teeny tiny Tesco Christmas tree grow bigger and bigger (glad I didn't throw it out)

    Failures:

Losing my two Dianthus to root rot.

Not realising viola labradorica spreads EVERYWHERE!

Not spending enough time just sitting and enjoying it all.

@jamessayersbrown you and Treeface have inspired me - I went out and divided my heucheras this afternoon! That Christmas tree is really pretty but I also love your collection of ferns!!!
