@HelloFellowGardeners - to be honest, the only thing that might diffuse a little is a hefty cherry laurel hedge. It isn't ideal, but if you let it get big enough, it might help a little. At least you wouldn't see the inconsiderate tw*ts.  ;)
I have a neighbour across the back from me who is a complete clown. Inconsiderate parking on the little access road, with all his various vehicles, is the main problem. My ex hubby had words with him one day about it. He likes building various 'sheds' too, and I'm sure the latest one is illegal. He hasn't spoken to me in years, when he was originally quite friendly, and I assumed it was after my ex spoke to him. I realised recently - he decided to get chickens at one point [not allowed here] and someone must have dobbed him in. He must think it was me  :D

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • I would say here lockdown brought a renewed interest in garden work (not nature or being friendly with neighbours) particularly in April, May and June it seemed every single day one neighbour or another was significantly trimming back or removing shrubs and cutting down numerous trees. My one neighbour was annoyed I didn't trim my side of his hedge the week he did his side but there were birds nesting in the hedge at that time. Is it me or should hedge trimming be conducted in September/October time? I ignored him and said I would do my side 'later' but I've no intention of trimming my side before mid-September.
Fairygirl It never ceases to amaze me the people who are inconsiderate act as though everyone else is the problem. If your neighbour doesn't want to follow the rules then why not move to somewhere more suitable rather than inconveniencing others with his parking, building illegal sheds, getting banned animals and getting the hump when people complain or report him for disrupting their enjoyment of their own properties?
How can people be so inconsiderate and yet so seemingly unaware of how their actions are impacting upon others? I think my neighbour would be the first to complain if I went outside and started singing yet I'm suppose to just ignore him?
Why should we sit in our homes or gardens with headphones on instead of the noise maker playing music or audio books wearing headphones. So frustrating. RANT OVER!  :D
Hope you all managed to get some peace and quiet in your homes or gardens. I was lucky to be able to get away this weekend.

    Because they're ars*holes.  :D

That neighbour of mine has 'small man' syndrome.... ;)

You're right about hedges, although it depends on the hedge. Mine isn't particularly suited for nesting, so it gets regularly trimmed.
I think you should get some very noisy wind chimes. A nice big row of them. Carefully sited.
    Then pray for a gale....

  •

I have never thought of wind chimes. Well worth considering. Thank you!
  • I'm going to look into the air purifier as well. I was worried it might heat the room, but waking up without the affects of pollen sounds great and perhaps the white noise would help block out neighbour noise at night when we are without gale
