You could buy these, or similar, on eBay, put a number on each pot and in a notebook keep a record of each pot

They arent in pots, they are in borders, if I dont label them before they stop flowering I wont know which is which. They were all started off in big pots, (black buckets) clearly labeled, May they were hardened off, the only label then still readable was the Alf Ramsey

If you bought a pack of 100 labels mark up a few  for each dahlia and when you are dead heading check and change the labels and rewrite the old ones.

If you're only bothered about colour, I still think a bit of thread is the way to go.
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • Could you dip your plastic labels in a bit of colour-coded acrylic paint? You can usually pick up a basic set with a few different colours for just a few pound xx

I have got little bits of paint around the house, but its emulsion, water based. would be happy to use (old) pots of nail varnish if the colour will stay. Songbird, I dont have a smart phone of any kind.  I tried both lolly stick and proper wooden "labels" in the past, found the writing vanished.  So annoying, because I had labeled them all so carefully this year (or so I blooming thought) so they could be planted in particular beds.
  • I think nail varnish should work really well!
