problem svoling

I start my Dahlias off in pots, they had the standard white plastic labels, keep them clean off re-use till the disintigrate.  The pencil wore away from all bar Alf Ramsey,  I have bought some of those wrap round labels. I am not so bothered about the variety but the colour.  My initial thought was to buy the labels in colours, put yellow on a yellow plant etc, BUT they only came in packs of 100, so I bought white, I bought some Sainsbury permanent markers, they aren't. What can I write on these labels with that wont fade or come off, any thought, folks?

The tubers are harge several years old, they were planted in pots the size of an average bucket, I have lots of different size pots, keeping them as the original labes so as not to add to plastic waste.  That wouldnt help anyway, because i need to label them while they are in flower, it will be November when they are dug up.

Could you do something like paint stones different colours to put with each plant.
Then have a physical list showing which coloured stone is with which named/coloured variety?
    Or something along those lines.

K67, how many what have I got, Dahlias? over 20, you cant  get buckets in all the colours, anyway, the ones I have are all black  I have already bought 100 white plastic labels  Stone, I had toyed with the idea of something like that, but during weeding, planting and dogs going through the borders, they would be moved. I tried those bigger labels, with a flat top to write on then a point , they got moved ,snapped, tried black recycled ones, same problem.Trying to keep down plastic usage, it says in today's paper, every mouthfull of fish you eat  contains plastic, sardines being the worst.  I live quite near the coast, I see the plastic left on and washed up on the beach. All I need is a pen/pencil,marker that I can write on the labels while the plants are in flower, before they are dug up,  which wont fade out,I wonder if nail varnish would work.

Mmmmm... self adhesive numbers stuck to the label and madpenguin idea of a list or  a number stencil  and spray paint or a paint pen?
Or mark them on a paper plan or photos of the borders, once lifted and under cover the labels would last over winter.
Or plant them out every year in the same spot and take memory training course? 😊

Gloss paint? Maybe you can load up on tester pots.

Well, if I can actually label them, then yes of course, I could put them in the same spot, I left some in, that made my life a lot easier
