Morning - trying to do a bit of tidying outside. Has anyone found a good way to handle / store bits of chicken wire? It's just a mass of bits snagging on each other and my skin. I've resorted to bundling the bits together and shoving it behind the shed. I'll regret that decision when I need to move it to sweep up the leaves....

Debs - I cannot imagine sitting in a hairdresser's chair for 5 hrs. Longest I've done was probably 90 minutes. Were you having lots of different shades? Bet it looks fab now!

Chey - fingers crossed for the roofer!

My hair is jaw length and very fine but basically the root regrowth was so bad that she had to put in 3 times more foils to bleach than usual or I would have resembled a zebra! It’s now completely blonde. She is a mobile hairdresser so at least I was at home for the marathon session! I will need to book again in 6 weeks to get back to my usual sun kissed look.Β

@topbird It's hard stuff to use and store isn't it! I store smallish pieces flat with a layer of cardboard in between each piece. Bigger bits I roll up as best I can and throw in the darkest, furthest corner of the shed.Β  :D

Afties all. Hello @Biglad, good to see you. T'Bird, how big are your pieces of chicken wire - not that I have any sensible suggestion to make regarding its storage? Flat sounds the best bet to me. Had a good morning with Bestie. Next week will be a magical mystery tour to get to her as about 3-4 miles of the road I use are being closed for carriageway repairs. Not before time I might add but it beggars belief they have waited until the children's return to school to start this work which is going to last for a week.

Roofer came! Fixed two tiles and put more slate on, and cleared the gutter!

BUT - "The whole roof will need redoing at some point!".

    Joy.

Well just keep an eye on things Chey. Any interior damage needs to be sorted by the agent too so don't let anyone get away with anything.
Should have said that damp causes moulds to grow and these can be very harmful to health

Noisy when they're doing roof work isn't it Chey? 😫

LB & Biglad (hello & welcome BTW) - the badoodly chicken wire is about 12 bits in various shapes and sizes - everything from a foot square to 4' x 2'. In the past I've sort of made a big roll of it - but it's a nightmare to do and a nightmare to unwind to find the bit you need. I have sort of stacked it and then folded it in half to make it a better size. It'll be easier to unravel than a roll - but not by much.

Very tempted to just lob it all in the metal recycling but I can't forget how glad I was to have it when all the garden & DIY centres were closed and I needed to protect seeds from cats and pigeons and make supports for the peas. I'm getting like my mum - keeping all these bits and pieces.

I have a stock of chicken wire - she had a huge dresser-drawer full of of used wrapping paper and string in different lengths & gauges. Everything from thick sewing thread to bits of rope. Hangover from growing up during the war when string & paper were in short supply.

As children we had to pick sellotape very carefully from presents so the paper could be smoothed and recycled. Still find it hard to just rip paper off a present....

T'Bird, the small pieces definitely need keeping flat and I reckon Biglad's suggestion is very good. Layers of cardboard between each smallish piece. If I had a piece 4x2 I would just fix it to my shed roof with staples. That way its out of the way but can be easily accessed if needed. This is like one of those problem solving exercises done for staff ice breaking.

It's been hissing down all afternoon, I want the summer to come back!!😭😭
Goodness Debs, that's sort of short hair really....that's an awful long time, but at least it was in your own home.Β
    Hello @Biglad πŸ™‹πŸ»β€β™€οΈ
Hazel glad all went reasonably well at the dentist. Glad it was just a filling this time.Β
Chey, glad the roof is mended, but now you'll have to get the landlord/agentΒ  to fix damp ceiling.Β
LB, glad you had a good catch up with your friends.Β
Have you heard from MU at all LB?Β

Sorry SGL, I haven't heard from MU since March. It hasn't rained here but at one stage after I got home it went pitch black outside and I thought it was going to chuck it down but it didn't. It is definitely cooler though.
