    Thank you for telling me that, well no contest then! and he also has 4 of the varieties that you advised me to get.
    I will have a look at Style roses too as if I am successful this time i will certainly be buying more to replace the boring all green shrubs that I have.  Would have tried roses before but always though they were too complicated for me to grow.  I bought the one I have just to try, and although very slow growing it is still alive and producing flowers.
    Fingers crossed I succeed

    @Marlorena is our forum rose expert and I would definitely be guided by her advice. Good luck!

    ..thank you Debs..

    @susananwms
    ..just to add, if you decide to order from White's, they don't normally do discounts, except right at the end of the season but a lot has sold out then... so as they are so much cheaper, you might as well get your order in...   best of luck..

    Yes I thought so too, at those much cheaper prices I am not going to risk them running out so have ordered the Dublin Bay and the Compassion.
    Thank you so much for all your advice, I would never have been able to make these choices without your help.
    I would certainly have still bought some rose plants but would have almost certainly made the wrong choice  :s

    Don't forget to train climbers branches horizontally where you can. Stressing (gently) the branches promotes flowering and keeps flowers low not just up high.
    East Dorset, new (to me) rather neglected garden.

    Thanks Sue I read about that and watched a video, think I know what to do but will be a bit of trial and error I think.  Realised a lot of things I have done wrong with this rose I have already got.

    Please do not judge me too harshly about this but in learning about roses (I hope to have some very soon) I discovered that I had been training my existing rose incorrectly all along.
    I had it attached to stakes and it was flowering ok but was just growing vertically, I had not spread out the branches when I first planted it.
    I have tried to do it now and it looks a complete mess
    Should I just leave it and hope for the best or just cut it all down and start again

    I think it looks alright actually... just keep training it into a kind of fan shape if you can.. but don't worry about it too much, we don't have try too hard...
