Lots of people around here put surplus plants and garden produce out in their front garden with a sign suggesting a £1 donation.  Usually with honesty boxes or put the money through the letterbox.  We’ve done this for years, usually for charity.

some greedy so and so has been filling their car boot with every plant, yet when the gardener has checked, they left £2 ‘donation’.  It’s happened a few times but we’ve never actually caught them in the act.

how to damage community spirit in a minute.

Just around the corner from me there's a lady who sells plants from her driveway and has been doing so for 30+ years.
She has a table at the end of her drive with pots of plants she's taken from cuttings or grown from seed and an honesty box.
I bought a lovely pink penstemon a couple of years ago for £4.
Coincedently as I was walking past her house with my dog last year I spotted the Google car -
