Recommendations for Water Butt that connects to guttering

    I thought that having the butts linked at the top (like ours) meant that once the water level in each butt reached the level of the linking pipes, any excess water was then re-directed into the downpipe and into the soakaway? Saves having overflowing water butts and greeny slippery paving!

    The water should go down the drainpipe when the level in the first butt fills up the inlet pipe. The connecting pipes to the other butts obviously need to be at least a little bit lower than that, but how much lower shouldn't matter. If the diverter is fitted the right way up and at the right level there shouldn't be any overflowing. If it does overflow then the butt is too low compared to the diverter.

  • We added one of these and moved the water butts out the way further down the alley. There are two connected up. It may help just depends on your space. As you can see we didn’t really want our water butts in the front by the house
