How do get a fuchsia to grow big if you always cut it to the ground in Feb? Honestly curious. I want my purple and white one to be a big shrub not summer bedding size.
some will never get big , pruned or unpruned.

Yes, that’s when I cut it down, you may see tiny new shoots at the base, it’s quite cold here in the winter, usually😀. But that’s about the right time. Obviously if we’re in a freeze up leave it a bit later.  That type of fuchsia is a job to kill off.
There are some rusty leaves on it, the yellow ones, I would remove those.

I left mine later than that which might explain why a couple are yet to really get flowering fully.

I didn’t think of that, most of mine are small but still I like how they surprise me by coming back after looking dead in winter. Always nice and cheery when they reappear.

Steven if you want an upright fuchsia, try to get a Lady Boothby.
They call it a climber, it isn't really, , it need a trellis to tie it too, but it’s upright and I think, just what you need there. Cut the loses and take out the Bush one you have there.
Thanks Lyn. I'll take a look for one, are they hardy and do they need a sunny spot? I

To everyone else. I just left this one for a couple of years and it came back with a vengeance! Point taken a spot of research next time.
