Lovely thread! Few snails here but an epidemic of black slugs. I resort to pellets.
:D Definitely not the most delightful topic but I'm a bit obsessed. I must confess that I do have pellets that I have used in certain areas but the majority are still getting whizzed in the garden waste at the moment. Found a load of brians in the bush I was pruning out front this afternoon. Loads of 'em and they've got 12 days to plan their escape from the brown bin!!!

Well after 3 weeks I haven't found any more of the many brians with marked shells anywhere other than the bin. The big fella that survived the previous council collection remained on the underside of the lid for the majority of the next fortnight but went to the compost tip on Wednesday with the rest of my garden waste. I'm relatively happy that the vast majority of the brians (and probably cyrils) that get chucked in the bin never return to do further damage. On that basis, my benevolent treatment of the little beggars will continue for the time being.

Update - the only further escapee that I've clocked was a cabbage white caterpillar and it had only got as far as a leaf right next to the bin (in the wrong direction to get back to the brassicas from whence it came  :D )

And, yes, I haven't been killing off the caterpillars either. Deep down, I'm just a big, old softy  ;)

In conclusion, no evidence to change this year's benevolent behaviour towards crop destroyers.
