Returning pests

The slugs and snails that I collect and deposit in the council garden waste wheelie bin often climb the sides and chill out on the underside of the lid. However, I've only seen one Brian making a break for it out of the bin and back towards my broccoli!

Fortunately, I was still quick enough (just ;) ) to deny him but it's got me thinking, how many remain in the bin until the fortnightly collection takes them away to pastures new and am I being naive in thinking that most will stay in there?

    True FG. However, I'm still up for giving them a chance. There's plenty of greenery in the bin with them so was just wondering what the anecdotal evidence on the forum points towards. At the moment, I think the majority don't leave the brown bin and get taken away but the only evidence I've got is that whenever I open the lid, there are a number of them visible inside. Plus I've only spotted one making a run for it. Obviously, though, I don't maintain a 24-7 guard.

    Slugs get fed to my frog and snails go flying over the dyke and into the potato field behind us.

    I put mine in the brown bin too as can't bear to squish them and don't want to use pellets.  Somehow you feel as though you are giving them a chance to live out their days in the huge council compost bin.  Makes me feel less bad than I already do.

    The scientist who proved snails have a ‘homing instinct’ marked her snails with nail polish.

    Snails have a foot don’t they ... but do they have pedicures?

    I thought they ARE a foot!  Not in length, not in this country anyway but doesn't the pod part of gastropod mean foot?  Hmm feel a Google coming on.  Eating foot.  Can't be true! 😁
